Firstly, what is Digital Literacy?
Digital Literacy simply mean the ability to locate, organize, understand, evaluate and
analyze information using digital technology such as smartphones, laptops and desktops PCs, all of which are seen as network rather than computing devices.
Digital Literacy has seven elements which are:
(1). Media Literacy
(2). Information Literacy
(3). Communications and collaboration
(4). Digital Scholarship
(5). Career & Identity Management
(6). Learning Skills
(7). ICT literacy
(1) Media Literacy:
Critically read and creatively produce academic and professional communications in a range of media
(2) Information Literacy:
Find, Interpret, evaluate, manage and share information
(3) Communication and Collaboration:
Participate in digital networks for earning and research
(4) Digital Scholarship:
Participate in emerging academic, professional and research practices that depends on digital systems
(5) Career & Identity Management:
Manage digital reputation and online identity
(6) Learning Skills:
Study and learn effectively in technology-rich environments. Formal and Informal
(7) ICT literacy:
Adopt, adapt and use digital devices, applications and services.
Now I will like to move on to the Important of Digital Literacy.
What is Quality Education?
Quality Education is one that provides all learners with capabilities they require to become economically productive, develop sustainable livehoods, contribute to peaceful and democratic societies and enhance individual well-being.
The learning outcomes that are required vary according to context but at the end of the
basic education cycle must include threshold levels of literacy and numeracy, basic
scientific knowledge and life skills including awareness and presentation of disease.
Capacity development to improve the quality of teachers and other education stakeholders is crucial throughout this process.
I will also like to share with you six crucial dimensions of Quality Education.
(1) Equity
(2) Learning Outcomes
(3) Balance Approach
(4) Sustainability
(5) Child-Friendly Teaching and Learning
(6) Relevance
· Equity :
Equity in education means that personal and social circumstances such as gender, ethnic, origin or family background are not obstacles to achieving educational potential and that all individuals reach at least a basic minimum level of skills.
· Learning Outcomes :
After completing a certain level of education, children must have developed a minimum standard of skills.
Quality education requires oriented approach.
· Balanced Approach :
Quality Education aims at developing a balanced set of capabilities of children, they
require to become economically productive, develop sustainable livelihoods,
contribute to peaceful and democratic societies and enhance individual well-being.
· Sustainability :
Education change processes often need time to be realised, by enhancing the capacities
of local education authorities. All Learner aims to institutionalize these processes.
· Child-friendly Teaching and leaning :
Quality education put the Child in the centre and helps it to reach his or her full
potential. Quality Education requires children's active participation.
· Relevance :
Quality education cannot be based on a blueprint that is applicable in all situation.
Solutions and adaptations of education systems. It must be based on the real needs of a
Country or community.
Now I will like to move on to how to infuse Digital Literacy into Quality Education. They are as follows:
(1) Exploring the possibilities of mobile devices and apps.

(2) Meeting with students via virtual technology.
(3) Facilitating student group work with tools for collaborating.
(4) Digitally evacuating written work with tools like Safe Assign and Turnitin.
(5) Helping Students interact with data using informqation visualization tools.
